JUNIPER & SAGE Carol Markstrom Carol Markstrom is an Arizona-based singer-songwriter whose clear, emotive vocals and evocative storytelling have captivated audiences across the United States, Alaska, and Europe. Her music transports listeners through places, histories, and human experiences, often drawing inspiration from the landscapes and cultures of the American West.   A prolific recording artist, Carol continues to release original material, including her fifth album Seekers, which earned Album of the Year at the Red Carpet Awards in Europe. Her acclaimed catalogue also includes Native Style (Album of the Year), Mile After Mile (Western Album of the Year, Academy of Western Artists), and award-winning music videos Jeffords’ Secret and Bandida. She has also been honoured with the Silver Arrow Award for her contributions to Native American music and named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists.   Her latest release, Juniper and Sage, is a deeply moving work that explores the universal longing to return to places of meaning, drawing on the spirit of the deserts and mountains of the American West. Inspired by a poem from co-writer Betty Keck, the song reflects Carol’s enduring connection to place-based storytelling. Rich in cultural depth, it honours Native American traditions where juniper and sage hold significance for healing and blessing. The track is beautifully enhanced by the expressive flute of award-winning Native American musician David Rose, while the thoughtful production and musical direction—shaped alongside acclaimed engineer Merel Bregante—create a seamless and heartfelt sonic landscape.   A former university professor in Native American Studies, Carol brings depth and authenticity to her songwriting, earning recognition from the Native American Music Awards. A global performer and respected industry figure, she is a member of Folk Alliance International, the Native American Music Association, the Western Writers of America, and serves as a Director with the International Western Music Association.
