QUEEN OF THE ROCKING CHAIR
Kathy Carver
Kathy Carver’s latest release, “Queen of the Rocking Chair,” is a heartfelt tribute to love, family, and the timeless spirit of traditional country storytelling. Written in 1972 by Western Australian singer-songwriter William “Bill” J Tomsett while living in Perth, the song began as a reflection on life and land, but ultimately became a tender love story dedicated to his wife, Yda.
Bill first met Yda in Northam when he was 18 and she was just 15. While singing and playing guitar, he saw her and immediately declared, “I’m going to marry that girl.” One year later, they were married and went on to raise two children together.
In 1978, Bill and Yda fulfilled a lifelong dream, purchasing 43 acres at Perkins Beach near Albany, Western Australia. It was there they established the Rocking Chair Riding Stable, where Yda became lovingly known as the “Queen of the Rocking Chair.”
Kathy first heard the song in 2025 after Bill’s daughter shared the original CD with her. Deeply moved by its family connection and traditional country heart, Kathy was honoured to record the song, keeping it true to its original structure, warmth, and authentic country feel.
